A guesthouse should own its bookings

Listing platforms fill rooms, but they also take a cut and the customer relationship. What a direct-booking site can and cannot do for a small guesthouse.

For a small guesthouse, a listing platform is a double-edged sword. It brings guests you would not otherwise reach, and it keeps a share of every booking. It also owns the relationship: the guest is theirs first.

What direct booking changes

A booking that arrives on your own site costs nothing in commission and starts with your own email list. Guests who stayed once can rebook without a middleman. You can set your own policies and show your own photographs, not the platform's template.

What it will not do

It will not send you strangers. A new site does not rank overnight, so we do not suggest leaving the platforms. We suggest using them as the front door and your own site as the place guests return to.

What a good guesthouse site needs

  • A page for each room, with the details a guest actually asks about: bed type, balcony, air-conditioning, breakfast.
  • Real availability. A calendar that is wrong is worse than none, so the site should talk to a booking engine such as NightsBridge.
  • Clear policies: payment, cancellation and check-in times.
  • A phone number and WhatsApp button that work on a phone.

A note on demos

We build concept sites with a demo booking flow to show how it feels. We always label the sample availability as made up. A real booking needs a real engine behind it, and we say so on the page.
